You can do the mobile check-in for Finnair operated flights even if the connected flight is included in the journey. Download the app on your mobile device, complete your check-in, and get your e-boarding pass conveniently either via email or SMS link. In addition to this, you can opt for the automated check-in option. You can check-in either via one of the self-service kiosks or at the dedicated check-in counter at the airport. These kiosk machines are available at various airports such as Amsterdam, Beijing, London, and Manchester.

Make sure to check-in at least 45 to 75 minutes before the flight’s take-off time, depending on your destination city. Also, please note that check-in opens 24 hours and closes 75 minutes before the flight departure in case of direct flights from Helsinki to the U.S.

Carry-On Baggage Allowance

The allowance of carry-on baggage varies with the traveling class. Business Class and Finnair plus Platinum Lumo, Platinum and Gold members can bring 2 pieces of carry-on baggage with maximum dimensions of 56X45X25cm and 1 personal item. The maximum combined weight must not exceed 10kg. Other passengers can carry only 1 piece of cabin baggage with maximum dimensions of 56X45X25cm and 1 personal item. Their combined weight must be up to 8kg. The maximum dimensions for the personal item are 40X30X15cm.

Finnair understands your emergencies, and so, it offers a hassle-free cancelation policy, according to which:

  • If you have reserved your flights 7 days before the flight’s take-off time, then you can easily cancel that flight ticket within 24 hours of the purchase without any penalty charges. This condition applies to flights from/to the U.S.
  • Please note that credit card charges and service fees are non-refundable.
  • You can cancel your reservation if you’ve booked your flights directly from the Finnair official website.

Yes, Finnair tickets are refundable; however, you need to consider the following rules:  

  • Only those flight tickets booked from/to the U.S. that are reserved 7 days before the final departure and canceled within 24 hours of the procurement are fully refundable.
  • To get refunds, you need to complete the refund form. However, you must cancel the flight before seeking the refund.
  • The airline will issue the refund within 7 days of the receipt of the refund form for credit card transactions and within 20 days for cheque transfers.
  • Please note that the amount refunded will depend on your ticket or fare type. You can take your lovable pet on-board; however, certain conditions apply:  

  • Pets can travel in the cabin as well as in the hold, depending on the combined weight of the pet and the container.
  • If you are taking your puppy along with you, then ensure it is at least 8 weeks or older.
  • Only small pets like dogs, cats, rabbits, and other rodents whose weight is up to 8kg including the container can travel in the cabin. If the weight of the pet and the container exceeds 8kg and less than 50 kg, then they have to travel in the hold.
  • If the combined weight of the pet and the carrier exceeds 50kg, then they must be transported as cargo.
  • If you are transporting multiple pets of identical size in one container, then the weight of each animal must not exceed 14kg.
  • If you are carrying pets in a soft carrier, then the maximum dimensions can be 56X45X25cm, and if you are using a hard pet carrier, then its dimensions must not exceed 35X30X20cm.
  • Please remember that you cannot bring pets in the Business Class of intercontinental flights, due to space issues.

Finnair will charge an additional fee for bringing pets onboard, except duty dogs and guide dogs. This extra fee depends on the flight route.

As per the airline’s unaccompanied minor policy:

  • Children aged between 5 – 11 years old are considered unaccompanied minors and will be taken care of while flying alone in Finnair flights. For flights to/ from the U.S., this age limit extends to 15 years.
  • One can also avail this unaccompanied minor service for children aged between 12 and 17 years; however, it is not mandatory.
  • Children below 5 years can travel only if they are accompanied with an adult of at least 16 years of age or a guide of minimum 18 years of age; however, the accompanying adult must be of 18 years or more on the international flights.
