If you want to check whether your flight is on time or delayed, go to the official website of Spirit Airlines. Select Flight Status option and enter the required details. You can look for flight arrival and departure info by either entering the destination details or through flight number.

Another way to make your travel easier is by signing up to the email notification service that keeps you informed about the upcoming flights. If you provide your email address in the contact information section at the time of reservation, you will be able to automatically receive flight status email notifications for all bookings made with Spirit Airlines.

By signing up for the one-time notification service, you can get flight updates on:

  • Arrivals
  • Departures
  • Gate changes
  • Cancelations
  • Delays and diversions

To sign-up, visit the airline’s Flight Status page, enter the flight information detail, and click the Get Updates tab.

You can check-in using three options and get your boarding pass without any hassles. If you do online check-in using the airline’s website, you will receive the boarding pass online so that you can print it at home to save time and money at the airport. The online check-in starts 24 hours and closes 1 hour before your flight.

If you are using Spirit Airline’s mobile app for the check-in, you get your boarding pass on your registered email id.

If checking in at the kiosk at the airport, you will need a customer service agent to assist you for printing the boarding pass. However, there will be a charge applicable $10 per boarding pass.

Your ticket or Bare Fare includes one personal item such as a laptop bag, backpack, or a small bag which should be smaller than 18"x14"x8". Any other personal item or anything larger like a checked bag or standard carry-on bag will be chargeable.

Oversized or Over-Weight Baggage

41 – 50 lbs. (18 – 23 kg) - + $30

51 – 70 lbs. (23 - 32 kg) - + $55

71 – 100 lbs. (32 - 45 kg)- + $100

As per the baggage policy of Spirit Airlines, the size of your:

Personal item (e.g., laptop bag, purse, small backpack, etc.) should not exceed 18 x 14 x 8 inches (45 x 35 x 20 cm) including handles and wheels.

Carry-on bag should be maximum of 22 x 18 x10 inches (56 x 46 x 25 cm) including handles and wheels.

Checked bag should be maximum of 62 linear inches (length + width + height; 158 cm) including handles and wheels and maximum of 40 pounds in weight (18.1 kg). Any bag exceeding these dimensions or weight limit is considered oversized/overweight by the airline and you will have to pay a charge for the same.

Important: Any checked bag over 40 lbs. will be chargeable. Bags weighing more than 100 pounds (45 kg) or measuring more than 80 linear inches (203 cm) in overall dimensions will not be accepted by the airline.

Some guests are eligible for changes or cancelations at no cost. If you cancel your reservation outside of 24 hours from booking or it is less than 7 days before you travel, any remaining balance less cancelation charges will be issued in a credit shell.

  • For reservations made 7 days (168 hours) or more before scheduled departure date, the cancelation is free if made within 24 hours of the original booking.
  • For reservations made less than 7 days (168 hours) before scheduled departure date, cancelation charges will apply for cancelations made within 24 hours of the original booking.
  • For reservations made 7 days (168 hours) or more before scheduled departure date, cancelation charges will apply for cancelations made more than 24 hours after the original booking.
  • For reservations made less than 7 days (168 hours) before scheduled departure date, cancelation charges will apply for cancelations made more than 24 hours after the original booking.

For canceling a reservation online, you will be given an added benefit in the form of a voucher worth $10 per one way (maximum $20) that can be applied toward your future travel, if the booking value is less than the cancelation charge.

Group travel is not discounted travel and the benefits include:

Spirit Airlines do not offer refundable fares. But you can always change or cancel a reservation anytime by visiting the My Trips section on the airline’s website.

There are three ways to do the check-in for your Spirit Airlines flights:

  • Web Check-in, by visiting the website of Spirit Airlines.

Name Changes

  • Any changes related to slight misspellings or legal name modifications can be done for free. By contacting one of their reservation centers at least 7 days before the initial departure.
  • For a legal name change, you need to email Spirit’s Guest Relations Department at spirit.com/help to request the same, stating the reason for change along with the supporting documentation. To attach the required documents, you can use the option ‘Attach’ available at the bottom of the web form.
  • To make changes to the passenger information such as date of birth, gender, contact information, passport information, or redress number, you can contact the airline’s our Reservations Center at 1 801 401-2222 or email them at spirit.com/help. However, some changes may still require documentation.

Supporting documents include- Marriage Certificate, Divorce Decree, Court Order, and Legal Name Change Documents.

Since Spirit Airlines is a low-cost carrier, it only offers coach class. However, there are two options in seats- Deluxe Leather Seats and BIG FRONT SEATS.

BIG FRONT SEATS are wider and bigger than the standard Deluxe seats and provide extra legroom.

At the time of check-in, Spirit Airlines will randomly assign you seats for free, without assuring that you will get to sit with your friends or family members. To get a preferred seat, you will need to buy it for a charge starting from $5 and can vary depending on the location of seat in the aircraft and specific routes.

Spirit Airlines allow domestic pets (cats, dogs) to travel onboard in the guest cabin of all domestic flights. Please note that the airline does not transport pets in the cargo and does not allow animals as checked baggage and on international flights, except service animals. A fee of $110 (one-way) for carrying your pet in the cabin or as carry-on, will be applicable.

Small household birds and domestic rabbits are also allowed on the aircraft (except to/from Puerto Rico and the U.S.V.I.).

The maximum weight allowed is 40 lbs., including its carrier.

Important Carrier Guidelines

  • Pets traveling in cabin/carry-on must be transported in a pet travel carrier of a size not exceeding 18" L x 14" W x 9" H.
  • Only one pet carrier is allowed per customer.
  • The pet carrier must be kept and should fit under the seat in front of you. Throughout the flight, your pet must remain in the carrier with no part protruding from the carrier.
  • A maximum of 2 similar pets per carrier is allowed provided they can stand up, turn around and lie down comfortably.

According to the Unaccompanied Minor Policy of Spirit Airlines, children of specific age group can travel alone only on direct domestic flights (including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands) and will not be allowed on connecting flights, International flights, or domestic flights that involve a scheduled change of aircraft. The airline ensures your child travels with utmost comfort and offered a snack and drink on board.

  • Children aged 4 years and below are not allowed to travel alone. Another guest of at least 15 years of age must escort them.
  • Children aged between 5-14 years must travel as an Unaccompanied Minor if not traveling with an adult of at least 15 years old.
  • Unaccompanied Minors are accepted only on direct flights which do not involve a change of flight number or aircraft.
  • Guests aged 15 years and older don’t need to have Unaccompanied Minor service, but they may be asked to show a picture ID or birth certificate to verify their age.
  • For guests 15 and older, the Unaccompanied Minor service may be chargeable.
