There are three ways to get your boarding pass for WestJet Airlines:

Online Check-in

Airport Check-in

At the airport, visit a WestJet kiosk for doing self-check-in or reach out to an agent at a Guest Assistance counter 3 hours or fewer before your flight. You can print your boarding pass at the airport once you are through with the process of kiosk check-in.

Based on your fare type, the fees for checked baggage may vary. Please refer to the below-mentioned table to know the applicable baggage fees for your trip:

Please note that the fee is charged in CAD or USD, depending on the departure country. GST is charged on all itineraries that originate in Canada.

Carry-On Baggage Allowance:

The baggage allowances are applicable only on flights operated by WestJet or WestJet Encore. This includes domestic, U.S., international, and chartered flights. As per the baggage policy of the airline, you can carry on some items with you on your flight. However, it is subject to space availability. The smaller, personal item you are carrying should be stowed under the seat in front of you.

For every guest having a confirmed seat, one free piece of carry-on baggage and one personal item is allowed. Items exceeding the carry-on allowance and not fitting into the sizing device will be considered as checked baggage, and applicable baggage fees may be collected.

  • The carry-on item (such as a backpack, bag, and suitcase) must be light and the size should be maximum 53 cm x 38 cm x 23 cm (21 in. x 15 in. x 9 in.).
  • The personal item must not exceed this size- 41 cm x 33 cm x 15 cm (16 in. x 13 in. x 6 in.). Such an item can include but is not limited to briefcase or purse, camera, garment, diplomatic, consular or camera bag, kennel, laptop computer, small musical instrument, and sports ball.

Checked Baggage Allowance and Excess Baggage

The dimensions of checked baggage must be within 157 total centimeters or 62 total inches and not weighing more than 23 kilograms or 50 pounds.

Any piece of baggage beyond the allowed size or weight is subject to all applicable oversized weight and size restrictions and fees.

If you are carrying any overweight or oversized baggage, it is advised you arrive at the airport 30 minutes before the recommended check-in times to allow time for screening.

According to the cancelation policy of WestJet Airlines, you can cancel your flights up until two (2) hours before the scheduled flight departure.

Cancelations within 24 hours of booking

If you cancel your flight/booking within 24 hours of the original booking time, you will be refunded the full cost of your flight in the original form of payment. This excludes the flights scheduled to depart within 24 hours of the booking time (i.e., same-day flights), where a cancelation fee per person will be charged, and a refund will be issued to your Travel bank.

For cancelations made beyond 24 hours of booking, you will be charged a fee based on the type of your fare.

Basic fares: Such fares will not be refunded to you in the original form of payment if you cancel a flight after 24 hours of the original booking time and the funds will not be returned to you in the form of a travel credit.

Economy, Premium, Business, and Member Exclusive fares (travel to or from all destinations in North America including Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America): These types of fares will not be refunded to you in the original form of payment when canceled after a period of 24 hours from the original booking time or for same-day bookings. Rather, after charging a cancelation fee of 100 CAD/USD (plus tax, per person per fare component), the remaining funds will be returned to you in the form of a travel credit.

To cancel your bookings online, go to Manage Trips, sign in with your account credentials or use the reservation information to proceed. Choose the option- Cancel Check-in and select the guests to cancel.

You may not be able to cancel online if your flight booking:

  • Was done in cash,
  • Involves a flight departing within two hours, or
  • Includes special arrangements such as traveling with a pet or a guest that requires the use of portable oxygen, etc.

Hence, you will need to contact the airline directly at 1-888-WESTJET (1-888-937-8538) for assistance.

If your booking was made through:

  • WestJet Vacations or WestJet Vacations Groups bookings, you need to contact the WestJet representative assigned to your reservation.
  • An airline partner, travel agency or tour operator, get in touch with them directly as all modifications are managed by these partners/agencies.

WestJet Groups, including weddings, conventions, sports or schools, you need to contact the WestJet representative assigned to your reservation.

As per the booking policies of WestJet Airlines, you can:

  • Book a flight by visiting the airline’s website, by calling them directly at 1-888-937-8538, or through a travel agent.
  • Make changes to or cancel flights up until two (2) hours before the flight is scheduled to depart. After the 24-hour period, certain fee and restrictions will apply.
  • Book up to six (6) seats in a single online reservation. If you have a group of seven (7) to nine (9) guests traveling, it is advised you make two separate reservations with up to six (6) guests on the first reservation and the remaining guests on the second reservation.
  • Make group reservations involving 10 or more passengers and need to contact the WestJet Group Desk at 1-888-493-7853. Please note that Group reservations are available on WestJet and WestJet Encore operated flights only and not on code-share and interline flights.

For your reservations, you need to pay for your flight online at the time of booking only. WestJet accepts the following cards for payment:

  1. American Express®,
  2. Discover® and Diners Club International® cards,
  3. MasterCard®,
  4. Visa®, and
  5. Visa Debit and WestJet gift cards.

In case you don’t have a payment card, you can book your flight(s) with a travel agent. 

WestJet dollars can be used like cash to pay online for all or part of the base fare of an eligible flight or vacation package. WestJet dollars cannot be applied against taxes, fees or charges and can only be used for new bookings.

WestJet allows you to make changes to or cancel your flights up until two (2) hours before the scheduled flight departure.

The check-in facility for both- online and kiosks starts 24 hours before your flight's scheduled departure. The cut-off times for domestic flights is 45 minutes before the scheduled departure and 60 minutes in case of international flights for both online and kiosk check-in. Please note this excludes time for baggage drop-off and security checks.

The airline suggests you check-in at least 90 minutes before the departure if you're traveling within Canada and 120 minutes for international travel.

You should arrive at the boarding gate at least 40 minutes before your flight’s departure. If you reach the airport less than 10 minutes before the departure, you will be denied boarding.

Important: WestJet will not be responsible for missed flights, transfers, or any portion of onward travel due to late arrival at the gate.

Making changes to WestJet flights is possible but can’t be done online.  Hence, you will need to contact the airline directly at 1-888-WESTJET (1-888-937-8538) if your booking:

  • Was purchased with WestJet dollars or cash.
  • Includes special arrangements such as traveling with a pet or a guest that requires the use of portable oxygen, etc.
  • Involving multi-city flights.
  • Involving a flight departing within two hours. In this case, the airline might not be able to process a change to your booking but may be able to accommodate you on another flight.

If your bookings were made through:

  • WestJet Vacations or WestJet Vacations Groups bookings, you need to contact the WestJet representative assigned to your reservation.
  • An airline partner, travel agency or tour operator, get in touch with them directly as all modifications are managed by these partners/agencies.

WestJet Groups, including weddings, conventions, sports or schools, you need to contact the WestJet representative assigned to your reservation.

For an existing reservation, you have the option of changing or selecting a seat. Go to Manage trips section and enter your reservation code and last name to proceed.

As per the unaccompanied-minor program of WestJet, children who are under the age of 5 are permitted to travel with their parents or a person who is at least 16 years of age. Children who are above 5 years of age but less than 12 years can travel with any person aged 12 years or older.
